An Unexpected Visit

I saw an amazing sight today – something totally unexpected and magical. There is a pair of blue tits nesting in one of the nest boxes in the garden. Over the last week or two I have had great joy in watching the adults dart into the box with caterpillars and bugs in their beaks. A number of times, I carefully sneaked underneath the nest box, and I could hear the heartwarming sound of the baby chicks tweeting, waiting for their dinner to arrive. I stood a few metres away from the nest box, keeping quiet and standing very still, and watched the parents visit up to twice a minute. They really are doing a great job at raising the chicks. Today, whilst sitting in my bedroom I saw something out of the corner of my eye by the window. I turned to take a look – it was a baby blue tit sitting on the window ledge outside staring into my room and tweeting at me! I couldn’t believe my eyes. I could hear it through the window too. Before I had time to get out my camera the baby had flown away. There is no way of knowing if this little blue tit was one from my nest box or from a neighbouring nest, but either way it was a special sight and a story I will be excited to tell for many moons to come.

Hello All and Welcome

Hello, and welcome to my shiny, new blog. I suppose I should introduce myself – I’m Nicki, and I have been interested in animals and wildlife since I can remember. As a child I always had pets around the house; mainly hamsters and gerbils, and more recently I have kept rats, which are such intelligent creatures that make fantastic pets. I have always liked nature and the beauty and tranquility it provides. In recent years I have started to look more deeply at the environment and start to think of the animals I see in the garden as their own little families, going about their daily business. So why am I starting this blog I hear you ask; I thought I would start a blog to share my passion of wildlife, my journey, and the photos and stories that I come across on the way. Watch this space for more blog posts soon.
